Customer Evaluations
There are three sets that are almost identical, and differ only in the kind of camera: this a single (hidden camera), the outdoor starter kit, and the indoor starter kid. for alot more comprehensive critiques, look at those other kits as well.
As for my opinion, this set does what it says it does in a pretty seamless style: you install the software program, plug the camera into the wall, plug a USB adapter into the wall and your laptop, make some minor configuration adjustments and you are all set. I have no doubt we could have gotten a much better technique less expensive but not one as seamlessly integrated.
We looked at many completely different systems and bought this one rather considering that:
- most spy cams broadcast for Tv...you then will need a Tv/VCR to record, or a separately purchased adapter to make it perform with your laptop, and we weren't technically confident enough to want to decide to buy different pieces and figure out how to get them operating together
- some spy cams are self-recording (they include memory internally) but these tend to be pricey AND they limit how a lot you can record they will fill up if you don't clear them out on a regular basis, and for our purposes that wasn't practical
- most "wireless" spy cams function on a WiFi wireless network, which is terrific if you have a single, but we wanted this for use in a location we did not have wifi this one particular works by transmitting over your property or workplace electrical program.
- the expense of the method consists of a internet site you can set up to view your camera remotely (even though if you have a firewall you are going to only be in a position to watch three minute pieces if the process can connect directly, which could possibly require configuring your router which some folks will come across daunting, you can watch continuously).
So, that mentioned, right here are some cons:
- only functions on PCs, not macs
- 95% of the configuration is a piece of cake, but some aspects are confusing, like how to schedule alerts, and setting up for emailing alerts
- the program has many capabilities that are in the plan but you can not click on them -- they are there as advertisements for a "platinum" version of the computer software that costs $80 a year. It is annoying to have a screen complete of buttons you aren't in a position to click, and to have advertising be such a prevalent portion of the interface
- this 1 is sort of petty, but it would be great of the clock that hides the camera had an alarm, given that we had to get rid of a "actual" clock in spot of this a single
- the camera is fine for security, but the image is type of strange - it appears to be infrared? Which indicates the colors are bizarre. Reds turn yellow, greens and blues turn white. Which is almost certainly fine for security purposes, but do not be expecting to get a high top quality video out of it
I've had this program for about two.5 years. Overall, I'd have to say its hit and miss. Somedays it operates, some days it does not. Meaning the cams go offline a lot and you have to reset the cams, reboot your laptop, or restart the command center. This occurs about when a week at least. And of course, this seems to occur when you extremely have to have it (traveling, etc).
I've also had to replace two cameras following a year. WARRANTY is only fine for a year on these and they are expense! I have 5 cams in total. The customer service staff is pretty useful but they only have a handful of tricks up their sleeves (reboot, restart, unplug). So handful of, I know them by heart. My newest camera hasn't worked ideal considering that I purchased it right here 3 weeks ago and now I am thinking about junking the complete set up. That stinks because I've invested so significantly time and revenue.
Word of advice--just do not think it will be upkeep free of charge. It really is a lot of work to keep it working, and you'll quite often have to live with not each cam working effectively (specifically the spy cams--they give me the most trouble).
